The Vaction of a Lifetime

An open letter to all lovers of fine gourmet coffee and tea and connoisseurs of delicately crafted mealtime offerings:

Dear Cultured, Sophisticated Members of High Society,

You Kings and Queens of Carry Out. You Ladies and Lords of the Lunch Break. You Dukes and Duchesses of the Drive Thru. You are about to embark on a spectacular journey of unprecedented magnitude. More specifically, two parts of you will be making the fantastic voyage.

The first part will be your taste buds:

You used to think you know what you liked. When you were children (or maybe you still are children) you had your favorite foods. Chances are they were either battered and deep fried or saturated with sugar. And even if they weren't, they might still have been presented to you in a shrink wrapped package blasted with all the colors of the rainbow and emblazoned with the images of your favorite cartoon characters. As you grew up (or will grow up) your taste in food and drink has evolved somewhat to a more discriminating palate yet the burden of trudging along in the modern world weigh more heavily upon your list of priorities than the pleasure experienced by taking the time to enjoy a good, complete meal. Yes, you occasionally afford yourselves a nice evening at a fancy restaurant when your families come to visit from out of town or when you are hoping to coax your potential significant others into a period of courtship, but those rare instances can prove costly or too infrequent. So you make it through your days by microwaving frozen burritos for lunch and sipping on freeze dried instant coffee to wash down the bagels you bought from the deli on the ground floor of your office buildings. And while these rapidly consumed foodstuffs relieve the pangs of hunger, they never seem to satisfy you. Well, friends, believe me when we say that the change in management at The Broadway Cafe will revolutionize the way you view mealtimes from now on. We put so much time and care into selecting our ingredients and creating new and delicious recipes, it's a wonder we have time to run the business at all! We use only the freshest selections of fruits, vegetables, and meats for our wide variety of menu items, we bake all our bread and make all our condiments in-house, and we painstakingly test new combinations to ensure the perfect blend of flavors. You will be hard pressed to go back to the microwave once you have tasted what we have to offer.

The second part of you that will be going on an adventure is your...well it's your...it's hard to explain. Call it your souls, your spirits, your neural pleasure receptors. Whatever you want to call it, when people come in to The Broadway Cafe, something happens to them which is difficult for us to put our fingers on.

They somehow feel warmed up, though not physically. Their mood shifts from annoyance about the doldrums of their daily routines to a sense of welcoming and relaxation. Stress is relieved. Pressure is lifted. Friction is smoothed. As soon as you step through our doors and you smell the fresh baked bread, your transformations will have already begun. You will proceed to sink into one of our comfortable chairs and when you see the steam drifting off the top of your coffee or tea all will be right with the world. We have gone to great effort to create a space where you feel not only comfortable but at peace. We want The Broadway Cafe to feel like a safe haven. You should have the sense that when you step through our doors, you are being transported to a personal retreat where you are shielded from your troubles. Feel free to warm up by the fireplace in the dead of winter, or lounge around on our patio at the onset of summer. And rest assured that our menu, with its carefully selected seasonal offerings, will provide the perfect vessel for your spirits to escape the outside world. However, for those times when the outside world will not release its grip of you, we offer wireless Internet and several kiosks equipped with computers and printers for your convenience.

We hope you will join us as we guide you away from the confines of time and space. And we hope that we are able to satisfy that part of you crying out for a break from frozen burritos and instant coffee.

See you soon!
Sincerely,
The Management of The Broadway Cafe
